Charles R. Gallagher, "The Nazis of Copley Square"

Please join us as Charles R. Gallagher discusses his book, The Nazis of Copley Square: The Forgotten Story of the Christian Front (Harvard University Press, 2021).

Charles. R. Gallagher is an Associate Professor of History at Boston College and the 2017 William J. Lowenberg Memorial Fellow on America, the Holocaust, and the Jews at the Mandel Center for Advanced Holocaust Studies, US Holocaust Memorial Museum, Washington, D.C. He is also the author of Vatican Secret Diplomacy: Joseph P. Hurley and Pope Pius XII (Yale, 2008).

Gallagher will guide us through an often forgotten chapter in the history of America's Far Right. He examines how the Christian Front's members viewed themselves as crusaders fighting for the spiritual purification of the nation, tracing the groups origins back to the vibrant Catholic theological movements of the early twentieth century and discussing how mainstream leaders allowed the front to grow and thrive.
